Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is one the most effective treatment options for soft tissue injuries. It works best for stubborn injuries that do not seem to heal on their own or injuries that are continually reaggravated by work/lifestlye. It has been a groundbreaking addition to our clinic and we are blown away with the results we have seen so far. Here are a few patients testimonies:

What conditions can it treat?

It is most effective for chronic pain/injuries that have lasted for 4 weeks or longer. Here is a list of conditions we regularly utilize this therapy for:

-Tennis/golfers elbow

-Rotator cuff pain

-AC joint pain

-SI joint dysfunction

-Back pain

-TMJ issues

-Meniscus injuries

-ACL/PCL/MCL/LCL injuries

-Runners knee

-Carpal tunnel

-Achilles tendinopathy

-Plantar fasciitis

-Ankle injuries

-Wrist pain

-Dequervain’s tenosynovitis

-Labrum issues

-Nerve impingement conditions

-Most tendonitis conditions

-Most ligament pain

How does it work?

Shockwave therapy utilizes sound waves. Imagine how the bass from the loud speakers at a concert feel when they hit you, but these sound waves are highly concentrated into a small area. They are able to penetrate deep into the tissue and fully reinitiate the healing. These waves actually agitate the tissue just slightly. This is actually how the therapy works. Once the injury site is slightly agitated by the sound waves, it reinitiates the healing cascade and restarts repair of the injury.

How many treatments are required?

Most patients require between 4-6 treatments. Shockwave can be administered once per week. The soft tissue needs one week to repair and adapt to the treatment.

It is not intended to be a therapy you utilize often. It is intended to create a long term solution for the injury.

How much does it cost?

Each session is $60 and it takes around 5 minutes to complete.

Any other important information I should know?

It is recommended that you avoid ice and ibuprofen the first 48 hours after treatment. Soreness can occur and it is actually a sign that the therapy has reinitiated the healing cascade.

Also, if you are on blood thinners, have had a surgery or hardware installed around the injury site, or have an active malignancy these are usually contraindications to shockwave treatment.
